Traditional Lakota/Sioux Tipi with Woodstove

map_location_street_view-512 copy3.png

Our tipi is the real thing - A peaceful space where you can see the stars through the smoke flaps at night, and hear the birds in the morning. Lit by LED lights and oil lamps, this is a stay you'll never forget. Our tipi has a "double-walled liner" which provides insulation and privacy. The native americans observed that nothing is square in nature and the tipi is a great living example of their philosophy and way of life. The base is not a perfect circle but an oval and the cone is offset to brace against western winds. Even the door and smoke flaps are designed to fend off the elements. It's not only a practical space but a spiritual one too.

The Place

This is "Glamping" at it's best - sustainable living, with just oil lamps and candles for lighting. A woodstove will keep you warm on cooler nights. Please note - the bathroom is a recently built separate shower and toilet block, down some stairs - about 20m from the yurt. This will be shared with max. 2 other guests if the bungalow is booked at the same time. Otherwise, it's all yours.  At present we are providing a small 2-burner gas cooker for heating tea/coffee and making basic meals,  a cooler box for milk and food. (An outdoor kitchen is planned to be built in the next few months.)

Guest Access

Roam our wonderful 8-acre organic farm, jump on the trampoline, rest in the hammock and sit on any benches you find to soak up the views. Feel free to pick a few apples and apricots and even almonds when in season.

The Neighbourhood

We're at the end of a small dirt road, with a few neighbors off in the distance. So we're quite private, but close enough to Wanaka so you don't miss out on the action. Lake Hawea, a 10 minute drive offers a choice of two great restaurants and a surprisingly well stocked corner store, and the stunning lake is great for walking, picnics, skimming rocks or going for a swim in summer! There are a number of excellent hikes within minutes - inc. the Brest Hill leg of the  Te Araroa Trail, Mt Grandview, Isthmus Peak, Corner peak and many more.

Location

The tipi is located just near the highest point on our property, with views to the east, and south of Hawea's valley below.
